Abarth is an Italian car manufacturer, founded on March 31, 1949, by the Italian-Austrian engineer Carlo (Karl) Abarth and the racing driver Guido Scagliarini. Originally established as a specialist company focused on the production of compact sports cars, Abarth quickly gained a reputation for its high-performance modifications and racing prowess. Its success is particularly attributed to its innovative exhaust systems, which became a hallmark of the brand. These mufflers were designed to enhance both performance and sound, making them a sought-after tuning component for various manufacturers, including FIAT, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, SIMCA, and even Porsche. The brand’s deep-rooted connection to motorsports helped cement its image, with Abarth-tuned cars frequently dominating races in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1971, FIAT acquired Abarth, transforming it into its official racing department. During this period, Abarth became responsible for developing high-performance and competition versions of FIAT models, contributing significantly to the brand’s rally success. Abarth-prepared FIAT 131 Abarth Rally and Lancia Rally 037 became legendary in the World Rally Championship, helping solidify the company's reputation in motorsports. Over the years, Abarth evolved from a niche performance brand into a household name among enthusiasts, known for its commitment to lightweight engineering, precision tuning, and aggressive styling. Following its relaunch as a standalone brand in 2007, Abarth has continued to uphold its racing heritage, particularly through high-performance variants of FIAT models.
