Franco Martinengo (Turin, 1910 – Turin, 5 November 2001) was an Italian automotive designer and painter. Trained at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, he also studied architecture before beginning his professional career at Stabilimenti Farina in 1928. He later joined Carrozzeria Pinin Farina, where in the early 1950s he became director of the Projects and Experimental Department and subsequently headed the company’s Centro Stile for nearly two decades. Working under Battista “Pinin” Farina, Martinengo supervised and contributed to numerous projects developed during one of Pininfarina’s most important periods, including the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, Lancia Aurelia B24, Fiat 124 Sport Spider, Fiat Dino Spider and several Ferrari models. He was also involved in the development of the Alfa Romeo Spider “Duetto”. Alongside his automotive work, Martinengo maintained an active career as a painter, exhibiting in Italy and abroad from the 1940s onwards.
