Event: X Concorso Internazionale di Eleganza per Automobili di Rimini
Locality: Rimini (IT)
Class: XVI (2-doors and 2-seaters closed sports cars)
Driver: Nicolini Sanzio (IT)
Results / Prizes: 1st CL
Note: The 8V was brought to the parade ground in Rimini by Sanzio Nicolini, a nautical entrepreneur from Ancona. Nicolini was an entry in Group XVI – two-door, two-seater sports car group with closed bodywork. He was about to create another Italian excellence. In 1963, he founded Cantiere Nautico CRN, which today is one of the world’s most famous yacht and mega-yacht manufacturers. The concourse was animated by seventeen categories, both Italian and foreign (especially from the USA). According to the Italian press, the Italian cars enchanted the public with their design, roominess, and technical solutions. The cars of foreign brands impressed with their size and typical opulence, especially those of the big American brands. Sanzio Nicolini’s 8V perfect harmony of elegance and sportiness enabled it to take first prize in Group XVI.

Note: Ernesto Esposto of Ancona acquired the ownership of the car on September 27th, 1956, after the transcription of the private document of sale produced on the 24th. Ernesto Esposto paid the sum of Lit. 300,000. On that occasion, a new registration plate was issued in the municipality of Ancona: “AN 26566”. For the following nearly three years, any relevant information on the fate of the 8V is missing.

Owner: CARLO REVEL S.A.S. (IT)
Purchase price: Lire 150.000
Note: The new owner of the 8V was a company that specialized in industrial glass processing and produced mirrors and frames. At this time, the 8V returned to its original role as a racing car and began a new career in hill-climb racing. On September 25, 1960, more than a year after its purchase, the 8V participated in the second edition of Coppa Fagioli - Salita Osimo Scalo/Osimo, south of Ancona. It was driven by Lanfranco Revel. A picture shows the car at the start of the race with race number 204. Being the only photo available, it shows the car hidden by another FIAT (curiously the one driven by Franco Mercatali, 7th owner of the 8V), but some interesting details can be seen anyway in the area of the bumper’s right corner. It can be assumed a major change in the design of the front part was carried over: the overall shape of the body was more or less still the same, but the front end had been renewed: as will be shown on the following pages, the 8V received a new, wider, and squared front grille, new headlights, new side indicators, and a new bumper. There was a certain resemblance to the Ferrari designed by Pininfarina in that period. It could be assumed that, because of the company’s business, the modification had been carried out by Carlo Revel S.A.S. itself. The front bonnet appear to be preserved. On October 13, 1961, the declaration of sale to the next owner was transcribed on the basis of the private sale contract which was written on October 4th.

Forastieri’s ownership lasted about two months, and a new contract of sale was drawn up on January 2nd, 1962. Ownership of the vehicle was transferred to Franco Mercatali of Castelfidardo (Ancona County) for 100,000 lit. The document was registered at the vehicle registration agency of Ancona on the following January 15th.

Owner: Franco Mercatali (IT)
Purchase price: Lire 100.000
Famous owner: Franco Mercatali, born in 1934, made his racing debut at the age of 21 with a FIAT 1100 TV provided by his father. His career began to gain victories from the mid-1950s. He bought the 8V in January 1962 and became its 7th owner. Known for his passion for thrills and sporting class, he became the leading driver of the Scuderia Marche in races in the region. The car was prepared by the expert tuner Ovidio Pacini and driven by him mainly on hill-climbs. In the late spring of 1962, he took part in the VIII Coppa Azienda di Soggiorno San Benedetto/Acquaviva and in the early autumn of the following year in the IV Coppa Luigi Fagioli. In the second half of October 1964, he sold the 8V to a new owner.

Owner: Remo Tomassini (IT)
Purchase price: Lire 200.000
Famous owner: On March 30th, 1971, the contract of sale was drawn up in which Franco Cardinali transferred ownership to Remo Tomassini (italian collector) of Terni. On April 2nd, 1971, the contract was registered at the local Vehicle Registration Agency. The new owner paid the sum of Lit. 200,000. From then on, it is conceivable that, by the owner’s own choice, the car had ended its sporting career and had become a 100% road car: it was 15 years old, after all. In the second half of the 1970s, Tomassini gave it a new personality as a classic collectible car. Interest in these vehicles was growing at the time, and events were gradually increasing. In June 1977, on the 50th anniversary of the first Mille Miglia race, he participated in a commemorative edition of the race (race number 90). Starting in the early 1980s, Tomassini took part in numerous regularity and exhibition events throughout Italy (some examples: Coppa d’Italia, Parma-Berceto, Bologna-Raticosa, Coppa Città di Perugia, Targa Oro Avezzano).
