#CesareFiorio

Cesare Fiorio (born May 26, 1939) is an Italian motorsport manager and former sporting director, best known for his roles in Formula One and rally racing. He gained prominence as the head of Lancia’s HF racing division, which became the factory World Rally Championship (WRC) team, playing a pivotal role in establishing the brand’s dominance in rallying during the 1970s and 1980s. Under his leadership, Lancia secured multiple WRC manufacturers' titles, thanks to legendary models such as the Stratos, 037, and the Delta in its 4WD and Integrale variants. Following his success in rallying, Fiorio transitioned to Formula One, where he served as sporting director for Ferrari from 1989 to 1991. His tenure coincided with a resurgence of the team’s competitiveness, particularly in the 1990 season, when Ferrari challenged McLaren for the championship with drivers Alain Prost and Nigel Mansell. However, internal tensions led to his departure in mid-1991. Fiorio later worked with Ligier and Minardi, bringing his strategic expertise to these teams in the 1990s. Beyond his managerial roles, Fiorio also had experience as a racing driver, competing in events such as the Targa Florio and achieving success in offshore powerboat racing before fully committing to team management. In recent years, he has been active as a TV commentator and motorsport analyst, providing expert insights into Formula One and rally racing. His son, Alessandro "Alex" Fiorio, followed in his footsteps, becoming a professional rally driver and securing the 1987 Group N World Rally Championship title.
