#VareseCampoDeiFiori

From 1931 to 1960, ten editions of the Coppa dei Tre Laghi and the Varese–Campo dei Fiori hillclimb took place, attracting both professional drivers and factory teams. While the early editions in the 1930s were mostly relaxed motoring parades — informally dubbed the “Three Lakes Cup” and more akin to a social aperitif on wheels — the postwar races took the form of a true hillclimb competition. The route climbed from the city of Varese to the panoramic summit of Campo dei Fiori, offering spectacular views but also technical challenges, with numerous hairpins, steep gradients, and limited road width. However, due to the narrowness of the roads and the sustained high-speed elevation changes, the organizers from ACI Varese eventually decided to discontinue the event for safety reasons. The race remains a fond memory among enthusiasts and is periodically commemorated through historic re-enactments and regularity events.
