Ferdinand Anton Ernst “Ferry” Porsche (1909–1998) was an Austrian automobile engineer and entrepreneur, the son of Ferdinand Porsche and a central figure in the creation of the Porsche sports-car marque. He worked alongside his father from an early age and became closely involved with the Porsche engineering office founded in Stuttgart in 1931. During the post-war period, while Ferdinand Porsche was detained in France, Ferry assumed responsibility for the family company and pursued the development of a sports car bearing the Porsche name. This led to the Porsche 356, whose first prototype was completed at Gmünd in Austria in 1948 and became the foundation of Porsche as a sports-car manufacturer. Ferry Porsche subsequently guided the company through its expansion and the development of later models, including the 901/911, designed under the direction of his son Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. He remained one of the defining figures in Porsche’s history until his death in 1998.
