#AlfaRomeo

Alfa Romeo traces its origins to the Società Italiana Automobili Darracq, established in 1906 and later transferred to the Portello district of Milan. Following the company’s financial difficulties, its managing director, Cavalier Ugo Stella, promoted the creation of a new concern. On 24 June 1910, A.L.F.A. — Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili — was officially established, with Giuseppe Merosi as its chief engineer. In 1915, control passed to the Neapolitan engineer and entrepreneur Nicola Romeo, and the name Alfa Romeo was subsequently adopted. During the following decades, the company became closely associated with advanced engineering and motor racing, achieving major successes with cars such as the P2, 6C, 8C and 158/159 “Alfetta”. After entering state ownership in the 1930s, Alfa Romeo progressively developed from a specialist manufacturer into a producer of sporting series cars, notably with the 1900, Giulietta, Giulia and Alfetta. Acquired by the Fiat Group in 1986, the marque later became part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and is now one of the brands of Stellantis. Its emblem, combining the red cross of Milan and the Visconti biscione, has remained the principal symbol of the company since 1910.
