#Fiat508sBalillaSport

The Fiat 508 S Balilla Sport was the sporting version of the Balilla, developed around a low, elegant spider body with two offset seats and a driving position that encouraged an “elbow-out” style behind the wheel. Designed in 1933 by Ghia, with lines usually attributed to Mario Revelli di Beaumont, it drew inspiration from contemporary English sports cars and was distinguished by its smooth bodywork and characteristic insect-like tail. The early Spider Sport retained the three-speed gearbox, but adopted a Veix carburetor and a raised compression ratio of 7:1, increasing output to 30 hp at 4,000 rpm. With a 10/43 final drive ratio, it was capable of approximately 110 km/h. The model was also produced or assembled under Fiat licence by NSU-Fiat in Neckarsulm, Walter in Prague, and Fiat-France/SAFAF, later Simca-Fiat. The Fiat 508 S, known as the “Coppa d’Oro”, became the most sought-after version among collectors. From 1934, the model was updated with a four-speed gearbox, overhead-valve timing and other detail modifications, raising output to 36 hp. Bodywork changes mainly concerned the tail, which became more tapered, further emphasizing the sporting character of the car.
