The Autodromo Riccardo Paletti is a motor-racing circuit located at Varano de’ Melegari, in the Province of Parma, Italy. It was established in late 1969 through the initiative of a group of local enthusiasts that included Ennio Dallara, Romano Meggi, Giuseppe Dalla Chiesa, mayor Giorgio Bonzani and engineer Giampaolo Dallara. The original circuit measured only 550 metres and ran largely around the town’s football ground. It was extended to 1.2 kilometres in 1971 and, following further development, the new 1.8-kilometre layout was officially inaugurated on 26 March 1972. Originally known as the Autodromo San Cristoforo, in 1983 it was renamed in memory of Formula One driver Riccardo Paletti, who had developed his early racing career at Varano and was killed during the 1982 Canadian Grand Prix. A substantially extended 2.375-kilometre circuit opened on 22 February 2002; subsequent modifications resulted in the present 2.350-kilometre layout. Closely associated with the nearby Dallara headquarters, the circuit has played an important role in the testing and development of numerous racing and road cars.
