Mille Miglia 2025: The Automotive Masterpieces Lineup
June 17, 2025
From June 17 to 21, the Mille Miglia returns, and once again this year, many of the most anticipated protagonists will be cars counted among Automotive Masterpieces: extraordinary vehicles for their history, rarity, authenticity, and cultural significance. Thirty examples will take part in the 2025 edition, many of which have a direct link to the original Mille Miglia.
Among the five official Ferraris in the race, two Automotive Masterpieces stand out, telling fundamental chapters of the sporting history of the Prancing Horse.
The 1955 Ferrari 735 LM (chassis 0546 LM), bodied by Scaglietti, is one of only four examples built with an inline six-cylinder engine. After winning the 1955 Giro di Sicilia, it entered the Mille Miglia driven by Piero Taruffi, who set a speed record on the Brescia–Rome section. It also raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Trintignant and earned several podiums in the SCCA championships in the United States. It now returns to the Freccia Rossa in its original livery, entrusted to John Houghtaling.
At its side, the Ferrari 750 Monza (chassis 0530 M), formerly owned by Baron Bordonaro, will be driven by an all-female team, also from the Houghtaling family: Yulia Timonina Houghtaling and her daughter Alisia, competing for the Coppa delle Dame. It is one of only four 750 Monzas still complete with original chassis, engine, and bodywork. A winner of many Sicilian hillclimbs between 1955 and 1957, it also raced in the Giro di Sicilia, the Targa Florio, and the Tunis Grand Prix. After a five-year restoration, it returned to competition in 2024 and is once again ready for the Mille Miglia, followed by Le Mans Classic.
Alongside the two Ferraris, many other Automotive Masterpieces will parade—representatives of remarkable variety and historical depth: artisanal barchettas, grand tourers, unique prototypes, and “popular” cars capable of epic feats.
From the extremely rare 1927 Amilcar CGSS Manx bodied by Boone & Porter to the Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Supercharged Mille Miglia Special, which ran the 1929 edition, and the Riley Brooklands Speed Model with Tourist Trophy pedigree. The prewar lineup includes two splendid Lancia Lambda Spiders (7th and 8th series) by Casaro and several Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport cars—both Zagato and Brianza—with illustrious provenance and rare coachwork. Following them are postwar Fiat 508 S and 1100 TV models, symbols of small-displacement heroes taking on the giants, and rarities such as the official 1947 Cisitalia 202 Spyder or the 1956 Mille Miglia Jaguar XK140 OTS Works. There is even the celebrated Biondetti Jaguar Special, a unique creature straddling myth and mystery. The full list is available at the end of the news.
A selection that reflects the full geography of historic motoring: a parade of stories, metal, and memory that restores meaning and depth to the Mille Miglia—beyond celebration, beyond competition.
