#NinoVaccarella

Nino Vaccarella (1933–2021), widely known as “Ninni” and nicknamed Il Preside Volante — “the Flying Headmaster” — was an Italian racing driver from Palermo and one of the greatest specialists of the Targa Florio. A qualified lawyer and school headmaster, he built his racing reputation in sports cars and prototypes rather than in Formula One, becoming a works Ferrari driver and later also racing for Alfa Romeo. With Ferrari, he won the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans with Jean Guichet, the 1964 Nürburgring 1000 km with Ludovico Scarfiotti, and the 1970 12 Hours of Sebring with Ignazio Giunti and Mario Andretti. His name remains inseparable from the Targa Florio, which he won three times: in 1965 with Lorenzo Bandini for Ferrari, in 1971 with Toine Hezemans for Alfa Romeo, and in 1975 with Arturo Merzario, again for Alfa Romeo.

We'll publish a biography on him on the occasion of his anniversary or when it will be reached a sufficient number of cars.
