#MauroForghieri

Mauro Forghieri (Modena, 13 January 1935 – Modena, 2 November 2022) was an Italian engineer, designer and motorsport manager. A mechanical engineer by training, he joined Ferrari in the late 1950s and soon became one of the most influential technical figures in the company’s history. As Technical Director of Scuderia Ferrari from 1962 to 1971 and again from 1973 to 1984, he oversaw the design and development of Formula 1 and sports-prototype cars that secured seven Constructors’ Championships and four Drivers’ titles. Forghieri was responsible for numerous technical innovations, including the first rear-mounted transverse gearbox in Formula 1 (on the 312 T), and contributed to the engineering philosophy that defined Ferrari’s success both on track and in its road cars. His work bridged pure racing engineering and the evolution of Ferrari’s production technology during a decisive era for Maranello.
