#MarkkuAlén

Markku Allan Alén (born 15 February 1951) is a Finnish former rally and race car driver, widely regarded as one of the most talented and charismatic drivers in World Rally Championship (WRC) history. Competing from the early 1970s to the early 1990s, he drove for Fiat, Lancia, Subaru, and Toyota, achieving significant success, particularly with the Fiat 131 Abarth and the Lancia Delta Integrale. Known for his aggressive yet precise driving style, Alén held the record for most WRC stage wins (801) until Sébastien Loeb surpassed it at the 2011 Rally Catalunya. Although he never won an official WRC Drivers’ Championship, he was crowned the 1978 FIA Cup for Drivers winner, effectively making him the top rally driver before the WRC introduced an official championship in 1979. In 1986, he was briefly World Rally Champion following his dominant season with the Lancia Delta S4, before a controversial decision to annul the Sanremo Rally resulted in the title being reassigned to Juha Kankkunen. Alén's famous catchphrase, "Now maximum attack," became legendary in the rally world, encapsulating his fearless approach to competition. His influence on rally driving techniques and his passionate racing style continue to inspire new generations of drivers.
