#IlkkaKivimäki
Ilkka Kivimäki (born 20 July 1949 in Salo, Finland) is a Finnish former rally co-driver, best known for his long and successful partnership with Markku Alén. In 1973, he became Alén’s navigator, forming one of the most enduring duos in rally history. Competing primarily with Fiat and Lancia, they secured numerous World Rally Championship (WRC) victories, including wins in Portugal, Finland, and Sanremo. In 1978, they won the FIA Cup for Drivers, and in 1986, they were briefly crowned World Rally Champions before a controversial points reassignment. Kivimäki’s expertise in pacenotes and strategy was instrumental in Alén’s success, particularly during the Group 4 and Group B eras. Even after retiring, he remained a respected figure in Finnish motorsport, contributing to the development of young co-drivers.
