Enzo Anselmo Ferrari (1898–1988) was an Italian racing driver and entrepreneur, founder of Scuderia Ferrari and later of the Ferrari automobile marque. After a brief career as a driver for Alfa Romeo in the 1920s, he became a racing manager and established Scuderia Ferrari in 1929 as a semi-official Alfa Romeo team. Following his split from Alfa in 1939, he founded Ferrari in 1947 in Maranello, which would go on to become one of the most iconic and prestigious brands in the world, synonymous with technical excellence, style, and racing success. Under his charismatic and uncompromising leadership, Ferrari achieved legendary status in motorsport, winning numerous Formula One World Championships. A complex and commanding figure, he was widely known as "il Commendatore", a title reflecting both the respect and the awe he inspired throughout the automotive world. He was also referred to as "il Drake", a nickname evoking the English privateer Sir Francis Drake, symbolizing Ferrari’s fiercely strategic and combative spirit.
