1954
Chassis no. 421/200/196
Manufacturer: AFN LTD
Note: Direct evolution of the tubular steel space-frame developed by Fritz Fiedler (ex-BMW) and Eric Winterbottom for the 1948 Le Mans Replica. The hand-welded structure used small-diameter tubes with diagonal bracing, featuring a detachable front cradle to ease engine maintenance. In the Le Mans Coupé, the front section was slightly modified to accommodate a larger radiator and additional ventilation, while retaining the same suspension geometry and mounting points as the Mille Miglia.
1954
Engine no. bs4/412
Manufacturer: BRISTOL
Note: Bristol BS4 is a direct development of the pre-war BMW 328 engine produced under licence by the Bristol Aeroplane Company. Built to aircraft-grade standards, the engine featured an aluminium cylinder head with hemispherical combustion chambers and crossflow porting. Compared with earlier BS1–BS3 units fitted to the Le Mans Replica and Mille Miglia, the BS4 offered higher compression, revised camshaft timing, and improved carburation for greater performance and reliability.
