#ReutterCarosserieWerke

Founded in 1906 by Wilhelm and Albert Reutter in Stuttgart as Reutter Carosserie-Werke, the company became known for building limousine bodies during the 1920s. In 1930 they started producing bodies for the Volkswagen Beetle. When Porsche moved to Stuttgart, it marked the beginning of a close working relationship with the nearby Reutter coachworks - to become the main supplier of Porsche bodies for nearly two decades, before being annexed into the Porsche organization. In 1963, Porsche acquired the body manufacturing plant. What remained was renamed to Recaro GmbH & Co, (short for REutter CAROsserie) changing its focus to high-endseats. In 1970 the company was sold to Keiper, which was founded by Fritz Keiper in 1920.
