The British Grand Prix is one of the oldest and most prestigious events in international motor racing. First held in 1926 and organised under the authority of the Royal Automobile Club, it became an annual fixture from 1948. In 1950, the race at Silverstone opened the inaugural FIA Formula One World Championship, and the British Grand Prix has remained part of the championship every season since. Over the years it has been held at Silverstone, Aintree and Brands Hatch, with Silverstone becoming its permanent home from 1987.
