Silvana Mangano (21 April 1930 – 16 December 1989) was one of the major Italian actresses of the post-war period. Launched internationally by Giuseppe De Santis’s Riso amaro, she moved from neorealist cinema to major collaborations with directors such as Vittorio De Sica, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luchino Visconti, Alberto Lattuada and Dino Risi, winning multiple David di Donatello and Nastro d’Argento awards.
