The Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb is one of the oldest continuously used motor-sport venues in the world and one of the most important events in British hill-climb history. First held in 1905 on the Worcestershire course near Great Witley, it quickly became a major fixture of the British competition calendar. The climb follows a narrow, steep and technically demanding course of approximately 1,000 yards, rising sharply through a series of fast bends. Over the decades, Shelsley Walsh has attracted many of Britain’s leading racing drivers and specialist hill-climb competitors and has played a central role in the development of the British Hill Climb Championship. The venue remains closely associated with the Midland Automobile Club, which has organised competition there since the earliest years.
