#ScuderiaCampidoglio

The Scuderia Campidoglio was established in Rome in February 1954, spearheaded by the passionate automotive enthusiast Mario Costantini, who became its first president. He was supported by five councilors: Giuseppe Bianchi, Antonio Begozzi, Sergio Bettoja, Giuseppe Lamacchia, and Giuseppe Leopardi. The primary aim of the Scuderia was to unite not only drivers from the Sport category but also those participating in Touring and Grand Touring races, both on tracks and public roads. These categories were particularly popular among everyday driving enthusiasts and served as a starting point for many drivers who later achieved international fame. In its inaugural year, the Scuderia Campidoglio achieved remarkable success by winning the Coppa E.N.I.T., awarded to the team that registered the highest number of Italian Champions during the season. Notable drivers such as Luciano Ciolfi, Franco Ribaldi, Piero Taruffi, Gino De Sanctis, Sandro Sebasti Scalera, and Nevol Querci contributed to this triumph. Collectively, the team's drivers secured 122 victories, 84 second places, and 63 third places in 1954. Over the years, the Scuderia Campidoglio has remained a central figure in Rome's automotive scene, experiencing various phases of activity. In recent times, the club has seen a resurgence, with membership numbers stabilizing around a thousand enthusiasts. The Scuderia has celebrated significant milestones, including its 60th anniversary in 2014, marked by a parade of over sixty vehicles from the 1930s to the present day through the streets of Rome. In 2024, the 70th anniversary was commemorated with events such as a conference and a photographic exhibition at Palazzo Valentini, as well as a gathering at the Vallelunga racetrack, highlighting the club's enduring passion for historic automobiles. Today, the Scuderia Campidoglio continues to honor its rich heritage by organizing a variety of activities, including exhibitions, rallies, driving precision tests, and cultural events, all aimed at preserving and promoting the legacy of historic motor racing.
