The Rally Costa Smeralda is a rally that has been held since 1978 on the Gallura and Costa Smeralda dirt roads, born from the meeting of Prince Karim Aga Khan IV founder of the Costa Smeralda and the then President of the Automobile Club Sassari Don Franco di Suni as an event to promote the territory of the Costa Smeralda. The first edition took place in April 1978. Drivers such as Verini, Toivonen, Kankkunen, Cerrato and Biasion won here, some of whom later became World Champions.
