Paolo Cantarella, engineer, was born in Varallo Sesia (VC) on December 4, 1944. He initially worked in Turin-based automotive component companies, holding the position of General Manager. In 1977, he joined Fiat in the Automotive Components sector. In 1980, he was appointed Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of Fiat S.p.A., while also overseeing the Group's Inter-sector Industrial Coordination. In 1983, he became Chief Executive Officer of Comau, the Fiat Group company specializing in production vehicles and manufacturing systems. In 1989, he joined Fiat Auto as Head of Purchasing and Logistics. On February 1, 1990, he was appointed General Manager of Fiat Auto. From December 10, 1990, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Fiat Auto and Head of the Automotive Sector of the Fiat Group. From February 28, 1996, to June 10, 2002, he was Chief Executive Officer of Fiat S.p.A., Chairman of Fiat Auto S.p.A., and Chairman of IVECO B.V.
