Mauro Bolognini (28 June 1922 – 14 May 2001) was an Italian film director and screenwriter from Pistoia. Trained in architecture and scenography, he worked as assistant director to Luigi Zampa and in France before becoming one of the refined stylists of Italian cinema, often associated with literary adaptations and collaborations with writers such as Pier Paolo Pasolini and Alberto Moravia.
