#MajorEGThomson
Major E. G. Thomson was a British shipping magnate and prominent benefactor of the Ecurie Ecosse racing team during the 1950s. Head of Ben Line Steamers, based in Edinburgh, he played a key role in financing the team’s operations and vehicle acquisitions after their Le Mans successes. Not a racer himself, he was the behind-the-scenes patron who helped the Scottish team become internationally competitive. Among the cars associated with his support was the Jaguar D-Type XKD 501, winner of the 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans, which he retained after the team retired from racing. Thomson was also a keen automotive collector and is remembered as a discreet but essential figure in the post-war British racing landscape.
We'll publish a biography on him on the occasion of his anniversary or when it will be reached a sufficient number of cars.
