#GeorgeTilp

George E. Tilp was an American racing-car owner, driver and industrialist whose influence reached beyond the cockpit. Born in Brooklyn in 1912 and later based in Short Hills, he built a major business in metal-stamping and deep-draw part manufacture in the Northeastern U.S., which underpinned his motorsport activities. As a privateer Ferrari entrant he acquired early 750 Monza and other marque cars, and famously partnered with a young Phil Hill to launch Hill’s career in SCCA sportscar competition in the mid-1950s. Tilp’s dual role as entrepreneur and Ferrari patron helped establish the Italian marque’s competitive presence in America.
