The California Sports Car Club, commonly known as Cal Club, was founded in the late 1940s and became one of the most influential regional bodies in American motorsport. Based in Southern California, it organized some of the earliest and most important postwar road races, including Pomona, Palm Springs, Torrey Pines, Santa Barbara, and Riverside. As an affiliate of the SCCA, Cal Club provided structure and sanctioning for a rapidly growing sports car scene, nurturing talents like Phil Hill, Ken Miles, Jack McAfee, and Carroll Shelby. Its events blended European machinery with American specials, helping to establish California as the epicenter of U.S. sports car racing in the 1950s and 1960s.
