Bill Watkins was an American racing driver, collector and long-standing Arnolt-Bristol authority. He began competing in sports cars during the 1950s and raced chassis 404/X/3006 in period, establishing a direct connection with the marque that he would maintain for the rest of his life. During the 1980s, Watkins acquired Arnolt-Bristol Bolide 404/X/3008 and returned it to competition in historic racing. He became one of the principal custodians of the history of S. H. Arnolt and served as keeper of the Arnolt marque register, helping to document the identities, specifications and ownership histories of the surviving cars. Watkins remained an active historic racer for many years, competing with the Arnolt-Bristol at events including the Monterey Historics and Coronado. His collection and racing career also included MGs and more specialised competition machinery, notably a Genie Mk 8-Ford, with which he won Group 6B at the 2003 Monterey Historics. His first-hand knowledge made him an important reference point for owners and researchers of Arnolt-Bristol automobiles.
