#AutoTecnicaConrero

In 1951, Virgilio Conrero founded Autotecnica Conrero, a Turin-based engineering workshop that quickly became one of Italy’s most respected independent racing and tuning outfits. Initially focused on Alfa Romeo cars and engines, the company specialized in preparing high-performance vehicles for privateers and semi-official teams competing in hill climbs, endurance races, and rallies across Europe. Conrero’s meticulous mechanical preparation and deep understanding of engine tuning earned his creations a strong reputation on the track. His modified Alfa Romeos, often identified by the “Elaborata Conrero” badge, combined factory reliability with bespoke enhancements that delivered competitive edge and exceptional performance. By 1969, cars prepared by Autotecnica Conrero had achieved more than 1,000 victories worldwide—a remarkable feat that testified to both the quality of Conrero's engineering and the loyalty of a growing number of drivers who trusted his machines. His workshop became a reference point for aspiring racers, established professionals, and even rival teams. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Autotecnica Conrero expanded its scope to include tuning work on Lancia and Opel vehicles, often collaborating with manufacturers and developing limited-production performance variants. The company’s dual role as both tuner and team manager allowed Conrero to maintain direct oversight on both mechanical preparation and race strategy. Autotecnica Conrero is remembered not only for its technical excellence, but also for its pivotal role in supporting independent motorsport efforts in Italy and beyond. The Conrero name remains synonymous with ingenuity, competition, and the golden age of Italian privateer racing.
