Dedicated to the Targa Florio, a new volume in the “Chassis Books” series is underway.

November 6, 2024

After the three volumes dedicated to the Mille Miglia, the publishing project created by Sandro Binelli and produced by AUTOMOTIVE MASTERPIECES dedicates a volume to the historic Sicilian race. The TARGA FLORIO'S CHASSIS project, which has received the patronage of ACI and ACI Storico, is in the works: the first volume is currently in progress, with publication expected in 2025.

AUTOMOTIVE MASTERPIECES is proud to announce that the monographic volume TARGA FLORIO’S CHASSIS is now in production.

TARGA FLORIO’S CHASSIS is a fascinating project and the first of its kind: its aim is to document every car participating in each edition of the original speed race from 1906 to 1977, as well as the rally race from 1978 onward.

Why Targa Florio? Vincenzo Florio’s creation is one of the oldest car races in the world, and the oldest still held today. It retains a timeless charm in a beautiful land that deserves a special tribute—with a golden cover!

Each featured car that competed in the Targa Florio from 1906 to 1977 is presented in many pages enriched by the presence of rare black and white and color photographs of the time, with two lists: one detailing every Targa Florio speed race in which it participated, and a second listing subsequent events held under the Targa Florio name. Additionally, a third separate list categorizes each car according to AUTOMOTIVE MASTERPIECES categories. The same format will apply to rally cars. Furthermore, cars that participated from the 1970s to the re-enactment events bearing the Targa Florio name appear in a separate section of the book.

The first TARGA FLORIO’S CHASSIS book in this new series is dedicated to 45 cars that raced in the Targa Florio, displayed through over 250 images and documents.

Created by Sandro Binelli, the TARGA FLORIO’S CHASSIS editorial project has received the esteemed patronage of the Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI) and the ACI Storico Club, with the endorsement of Angelo Sticchi Damiani. The ACI strongly supported the project, which celebrates the historic race held on the sun-drenched Sicilian roads.

TARGA FLORIO’S CHASSIS is part of the ambitious “Chassis Book” project, which has already produced three volumes dedicated to the Mille Miglia and has a fourth on the way. The first volume of the TARGA FLORIO’S CHASSIS books follows the same format and dimensions. Written entirely in English, it is generously sized at 250 x 325 mm and will be published in Italy with over 350 high-quality pages.

The Targa Florio car survey and the TARGA FLORIO’S CHASSIS editorial project were presented at the ACI Storico space at Auto e Moto d’Epoca in Bologna on Sunday, October 27, 2024. This unique event featured Sandro Binelli, author of the book and founder of AUTOMOTIVE MASTERPIECES, along with Marco Gandino, Sole Director and Business Development Manager, who introduced the project in a press conference moderated by automotive journalist Marco di Pietro. The engaging presentation of the book provided insight into the "modus operandi" of AUTOMOTIVE MASTERPIECES and highlighted the unique features of the TARGA FLORIO’S CHASSIS book. It was a wonderful occasion to meet and share automotive culture.

If you own a car that participated in the Targa Florio, don’t hesitate to contact the publisher—final slots are available. Crowdfunding support is crucial, with numbered books offered at the price of standard editions for backers.

The TARGA FLORIO’S CHASSIS book is currently in production and is anticipated to be published in the coming year, 2025.
