#CoppaDOroDolomiti
The Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti took place from 1947 to 1956, captivating spectators with its spectacular mountain passes through the Dolomites. It was founded by Ferruccio Gidoni, then-president of Automobile Club Belluno, and quickly became one of the most prestigious Italian road races of the time. The event was a true test for both established drivers from major manufacturers and privateer racers, who often competed on equal footing, in keeping with the tradition of open-road racing in that era. The route remained unchanged throughout its history, covering a demanding 303.8 km circuit through some of the most breathtaking and challenging roads in the Alps. Starting from Cortina d'Ampezzo, the course passed through Passo Falzarego, Agordino, Arabba, Passo Pordoi, Val di Fassa, Passo Rolle, San Martino di Castrozza, Fiera di Primiero, Feltre, Belluno, Longarone, Pieve di Cadore, Auronzo, Misurina, and Passo Cimabanche, before returning to Cortina, known as the "Queen of the Dolomites." The Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti was not just a speed race but also a test of endurance and driving skill, as competitors had to navigate steep inclines, hairpin turns, and unpredictable mountain weather conditions. The combination of high-altitude racing, dramatic landscapes, and fierce competition made it a legendary event in Italian motorsport history. Although the original race was discontinued in 1956, it remains an iconic part of classic motorsport. In later years, it was revived as a regularity rally for historic cars, keeping the spirit of the original event alive and allowing modern enthusiasts to relive the glory of this legendary mountain race.
