On the first lap of the final, he passes in third place. However, on the sixth lap, he is forced to retire due to a broken water radiator pipe.

However, while negotiating a turn near Pescara, he attempted to brake, but the brakes, filled with water, failed to respond to the driver's input. To avoid a worse outcome, the driver from Cremona mounted a sidewalk and ended up with the car down a steep embankment. The vehicle pitched forward on the grassy slope, and the driver sustained an injury to his left cheek from the barbed wire marking the field boundaries. The car suffered minor damage, and the driver required two stitches.
