Battista “Pinin” Farina himself drove this Alfa and his son Sergio drove a Lancia Aprilla on a 15 hour drive from Turin to Paris. When they arrived they quickly washed both of the cars and parked them in front of the Salon for all to see. This was a statement that the Salon directors later received well in declaring Farina’s efforts worthy of a spot in the following years’ Salon. The French press commented “Ce diable de Farina a ouvert son antisalon personnel”

Purchase price: 1,000 GBP
Famous owner: A protégé and designer on the staff of the famous designer Raymond Loewy
Note: Koto landed a contract to design a new Austin. He worked in England from London Loewy's office supervised his staff. He expressed the desire to buy the Alfa Romeo the managing director Mr. Harriman. Mr Harriman offered the car to him for a bonus at a lower price. David Koto (son of Holden Koto) reveals the car’s ill-fated trip to America. The stevedores fastened hooks and chains to the front and rear bumpers to unload it from the ship. When they tried to lift it, they tore off the front and rear bumpers and damaged the front bodywork. His father took the car to his mentor Raymond Loewy and asked him to repair it. Loewy did so and changed its metallic champagne colour to a bright metallic green. The insurance company insisted there was only $50.00 worth of damage done. The restoration work included: pennants missing on bonnet, modified front bumper and a new dark-green color. Car colors: champagne (1950), dark green (1951).
