Giancarlo Giannini (La Spezia, 1 August 1942) is an Italian actor, voice actor and director. In his career he has interpreted a wide range of characters: from the proletarian worker to the mafia boss, from the protagonist of Italian comedies to that of more dramatic films, using with ease also numerous dialects, both southern and northern. Especially early in his career, he was also very active on television, as a brilliant actor, singer and dancer. During his career he was awarded in 1973 the Prix d'interprétation masculine at the Cannes Film Festival for Film d'amore e d'anarchia and in 1977 the Oscar nomination for best actor for his interpretation in Pasqualino Settebellezze, both films directed by Lina Wertmüller. He has also won six David di Donatello, six Silver Ribbons and five Golden Globes. He is also known for playing René Mathis in the two James Bond films Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. As a voice actor, he has voiced Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino in several significant performances. In 2009 Giannini received a star on the Italian Walk of Fame in Toronto, Canada.
