The Lancia Astura was a luxury car produced between 1931 and 1939, representing the brand’s most refined offering of the interwar period. Positioned above the Artena, it featured a narrow-angle V8 engine derived from the Dilambda, initially with a 19° layout and later modified to 17°30′ in the third series. The Astura combined elegance, mechanical sophistication, and versatility, serving as the preferred chassis for Italy’s top coachbuilders, including Pinin Farina, Boneschi, and Stabilimenti Farina. Four series were produced. The first two were characterized by conservative updates, while the third introduced technical improvements such as increased engine displacement (from 2.6 to 3.0 liters), two wheelbase options, and the adoption of a Dewandre brake servo. The fourth and final series, launched in 1937, became the basis for many official and ministerial vehicles, often with monumental bodywork. Though designed as a refined road car, the Astura also saw limited competition use, notably in the Sport Nazionale category. One of the most famous examples, a 1939 spider bodied by Carrozzeria Colli for Scuderia Ambrosiana and driven by Luigi Villoresi, was entered in the 1940 Mille Miglia.
