Giovanni Carlo Farina, brother of Battista Farina (founder of Pininfarina), was born in 1884 in Cortanze, in the province of Asti, but spent his youth in Turin where he learned the profession of coachbuilder at a local workshop. Married to Maria Nasi, he had three children: Giuseppe known as Nino, future Formula 1 World Champion, Attilio and Elda. In 1906 he founded the Giovanni Farina Industrial Establishment Anonymous Company, which he directed until the 1940s, when he passed the business to his sons. Passionate about car racing, he used to frequent the drivers of the time, in 1930 he participated in the Aosta-Gran San Bernardo with an Alfa Romeo 6C 1750, finishing in sixth place overall and fourth in class. He died on August 18, 1957.
