Alberto Ascari (Milan, 13 July 1918 - Monza, 26 May 1955) was an Italian racing driver and motorcycle driver, winner of the title of Formula 1 world champion in 1952 and 1953. In the top car series he competed for a total of thirty-two Grands Prix, winning thirteen and climbing the podium seventeen times. He also got fourteen pole positions and lined up 25 times on the front row. He is the last Italian driver to have won the drivers' world title and holds the record for the highest percentage of victories in a season: in fact in 1952 he won six of the eight races on the calendar, winning the world championship title with the maximum possible points. (which later only Jim Clark will succeed in 1963 and 1965). Ascari also holds the record for fastest laps conquered in consecutive races: seven, starting from the 1952 Belgian Grand Prix and ending with the 1953 Argentine Grand Prix. Complete driver, he had a precise and respectful driving style for the mechanical vehicle; he also used to impose a very high race pace in the early stages of the race and then manage the advantage he had accumulated. He was also able to distinguish himself with covered wheels. His best results were a second place at the Carrera Panamericana in 1951, the victory at the Rallye del Sestriere in the same year, the success at the 1000 km of the Nürburgring in 1953 and finally the victory on the Lancia D24 at the Mille Miglia in 1954. He also took part at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1952 and 1953 driving a Ferrari and setting the fastest race lap on both occasions.
