#zagato

Zagato is an Italian coachbuilder. It was founded in Milan by Ugo Zagato, in 1919, with the aim of transferring the notions of aeronautical technology learned during the war period to the automotive sector. The Zagato bodies were immediately distinguished by advanced design, lightweight and excellent aerodynamics. The great intuition of Ugo Zagato, already in the first half of the twenties, was to abandon the use of wooden structures, replacing them with shaped and essential steel reinforcements, surmounted by light aluminum bodywork. Notoriety came with the Alfa Romeo bodies built in the '30s. The Zagato activity had a real boom in the 50s and 60s, especially in the field of Gran Turismo: Maserati, Lancia, Aston Martin, Abarth, without neglecting the "old love" Alfa Romeo, were dressed with sleek and aerodynamic lines (characteristic of the cars of the Milanese factory was the "double-bubble" roof). Since the 1970s Zagato, under the guidance of Elio Zagato, son of the founder, with the reduction of orders from the major car manufacturers, began to be interested in industrial design too.
