Subaru World Rally Team was Subaru’s official works rally team in the World Rally Championship, operated in partnership with the British motorsport engineering company Prodrive. The programme began with the Subaru Legacy RS before moving to the Impreza, which became one of the most iconic rally cars of the 1990s and early 2000s. Under Prodrive’s management, the team combined Subaru’s boxer engine and all-wheel-drive identity with specialist rally engineering, achieving major international success. Subaru won three consecutive WRC Manufacturers’ Championships from 1995 to 1997, while Colin McRae, Richard Burns and Petter Solberg each won the Drivers’ Championship with Subaru machinery. Closely associated with its blue-and-yellow livery, the Subaru World Rally Team became one of the defining teams of the World Rally Car era before Subaru withdrew from the WRC at the end of 2008.
