Subaru Impreza WRX is the high-performance turbocharged version of the Subaru Impreza, introduced in the early 1990s and closely associated with the marque’s all-wheel-drive and boxer-engine identity. Based on the first-generation GC8 platform, the WRX became the road-going foundation of Subaru’s rally image, combining compact dimensions, a turbocharged horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine and permanent all-wheel drive. In two-door form, the GC8 Impreza WRX also provided the basic architecture for the first Prodrive-developed Subaru Impreza World Rally Car and later became an essential reference point for limited and special models inspired by Subaru’s late-1990s rally success, including the Impreza 22B STi and the Prodrive P25.
