Simo Lampinen (born 1943) is a Finnish rally driver and one of the earliest of the famous “Flying Finns.” Despite contracting polio in childhood, he became a leading international competitor in the 1960s and 1970s. Lampinen drove for Saab, Ford, Peugeot, and Lancia, where he played a key role in the success of the Fulvia 1.6 HF “Fanalone.” With co-driver John Davenport, he scored major victories at the 1970 TAP Rally in Portugal and the 1971 Rally 4 Regioni, adding further podium finishes in international events. Known for his fast yet smooth driving style, Lampinen remains an iconic figure of rallying’s golden era.
