#PierrotOrsini
Pierre “Pierrot” Orsini was one of the most celebrated Corsican rally drivers of the post-war period and a defining figure in the early history of the Tour de Corse. Active mainly between 1957 and 1970, he contested fourteen editions of the island rally, winning three times—in 1959 and 1962 with Renault Dauphines and in 1965 with a Renault 8 Gordini—and also achieving two second places, a fourth and a fifth. Closely associated with his long-standing co-driver Jean “Jeannot” Canonici, Orsini also competed in major events such as the Coupe des Alpes, the Critérium des Cévennes, the Tour de France Automobile, the Tour of Sardinia and the Targa Florio. His performances brought him into the Renault and Alpine sporting orbit, and he later drove works-supported Alpine machinery, becoming renowned for his speed and intimate knowledge of Corsica’s demanding roads. Outside motor racing, he worked as a judicial officer in Ajaccio. A major inspiration to later generations of Corsican drivers, Orsini recounted his career in the autobiographical book Mes quinze ans de rallyes. He remained one of the island’s most respected and emblematic motorsport personalities until his death in 2018.
