Marcello Mastroianni, born Marcello Vincenzo Domenico Mastrojanni (Fontana Liri, 28 September 1924 - Paris, 19 December 1996), was one of the major Italian actors, as well as one of the best known and most appreciated abroad from the sixties onwards, especially for the leading roles in Federico Fellini's films and for the films played in tandem with Sophia Loren. Capable of juggling both dramatic and comedic roles, he is generally paired with the greats of Italian comedy Alberto Sordi, Ugo Tognazzi, Vittorio Gassman and Nino Manfredi.
