#LuigiRocca

Luigi Rocca was a senior Lancia engineer and engine specialist active during the late 1920s and 1930s. He played a key role in the design and development of the company’s narrow-angle V8 engines, beginning with the 24° V8 of the Dilambda and continuing with the more compact 19° V8 used in the first series of the Astura. Working under Vincenzo Lancia’s direction, Rocca contributed to the creation of an engine architecture that balanced smoothness, compact dimensions, and refined performance—traits that would become hallmarks of Lancia’s engineering philosophy. His technical expertise was instrumental in adapting the original Dilambda unit into the 2.6-liter V8 of the Astura, and later into its 3.0-liter evolution. Though less known outside specialist circles, Rocca’s work remains foundational to Lancia’s interwar mechanical identity.
