#HermannBurst

Hermann Burst was a German engineer and aerodynamics specialist at Porsche, joining the racing department in 1969 and later becoming Head of Body Development. In the early 1970s he played a key role in improving the high-speed stability of the 911, working with Tilman Brodbeck and stylist Rolf Wiener on the aerodynamic development of the Carrera RS 2.7. Their work produced the iconic rear “ducktail” spoiler, developed through wind-tunnel and track testing to reduce lift without increasing drag. Burst subsequently contributed to further aerodynamic developments of the 911, including the later “whale tail” solutions used on the Turbo.
