#HalkidikiRally

The Halkidiki Rally, officially known as the ELPA Rally, was an annual motorsport event held in the Chalkidiki peninsula of Greece. Established in 1976, it quickly became the country's second most significant rally event after the Acropolis Rally. From 1977, the rally was a regular fixture in the European Rally Championship (ERC) calendar. Throughout its history, the ELPA Rally attracted numerous international competitors. Notably, during the 1980s, Italian drivers dominated the event, securing consecutive victories with Lancia vehicles. Cars like the Lancia Rally 037, Lancia Delta S4, and various evolutions of the Lancia Delta Integrale were instrumental in these successes. The rally also showcased local talent, with Greek drivers achieving notable successes. For instance, Leonidas Kyrkos clinched victories in 1995 and 1996 driving a Ford Escort RS Cosworth, while Aris Vovos won in 1998 behind the wheel of a Subaru Impreza WRC. However, the event faced challenges in the 2000s. In 2003, a tragic accident led to the cancellation of that year's rally. By 2011, due to financial constraints and organizational difficulties, the ELPA Rally was canceled and has not been revived since.
