#GranPremioDelValentino
The Gran Premio del Valentino was a motor racing event held in the scenic setting of Parco del Valentino in Turin, Italy. The race, which debuted in 1935, was conceived as a city circuit competition, drawing inspiration from urban street races like the Monaco Grand Prix. Its location within the lush parklands of Valentino made it a unique and picturesque venue, adding an extra charm to the event. The circuit stretched approximately 4 kilometers, featuring a combination of tight corners and straight sections that tested the drivers’ technical skills. The tree-lined roads and natural elevation changes of the park added further challenges, creating a dynamic and exciting atmosphere for both competitors and spectators. The Gran Premio del Valentino quickly became a highlight on the Italian motorsport calendar, showcasing Turin’s deep ties to the automotive industry. After a hiatus during World War II, the race resumed in 1948, gaining even greater prestige in the post-war era. The 1949 edition, in particular, stood out for its high level of competition and attracted some of the most celebrated drivers and teams of the time. Iconic marques such as Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, and Lancia took part, cementing the race’s reputation. One of the most memorable victories occurred in 1948, when Jean-Pierre Wimille claimed the win driving an Alfa Romeo 158, further solidifying the legendary status of both the car and the racing team. It was also named Coppa Michelin in few editions. Unfortunately, the Gran Premio del Valentino faced challenges typical of urban races. Growing safety concerns and the advent of dedicated racing circuits began to overshadow street races. The final edition was held in 1955, marking the end of an era for Turin’s motorsport scene. Today, the circuit and its history are commemorated through reenactments.
