The Giants Despair Hillclimb, first run in 1906 in Laurel Run near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, is one of the oldest motorsport events in the United States. Created as part of Wilkes-Barre’s centennial celebration, it became a classic American hillclimb, with a demanding 1-mile course climbing the steep “Giant’s Despair” grade. Still held annually, it is the oldest continuously running motorsport event in Pennsylvania and a symbol of the region’s long racing tradition.
We'll tell the story of this event on the occasion of its anniversary or when it will reach a sufficient number of cars.
