#GiampaoloBoano

Giampaolo Boano (Torino, 1930 – data unknown) was an Italian automotive designer and stylist, known for his role as Director of Styling at Fiat during the 1960s. He was the son of Felice Mario Boano, a prominent coachbuilder and founder of Carrozzeria Boano, a short-lived but influential carrozzeria active in the mid-1950s. After Fiat acquired Carrozzeria Boano in 1959, Giampaolo was appointed head of the Centro Stile Fiat, succeeding his father. In this position, he was responsible for supervising the development of Fiat’s visual identity across the range and for managing the coordination between Fiat’s internal styling office and external coachbuilders, including Pininfarina, Bertone, and others. Although Giampaolo Boano did not directly design the Pininfarina-bodied Fiat spiders (such as the 1200, 1500, and 1600 S), he played an important indirect role in ensuring stylistic consistency and coherence within Fiat’s lineup during a decade of strong industrial growth and expanding model diversification. His leadership at Fiat’s Styling Center marked a transition from artisanal bodywork to fully industrialized design management, laying the foundation for the modern automotive design process within Fiat.
