Francisco 'Chico' Marques was born on August 3, 1908, in Portugal and died on May 19, 1986, in Brazil from Parkinson's disease. He was married twice and had three sons. At the age of 42, Marques made a promising debut in a Formula Libre race at Interlagos in 1950, finishing 2nd behind Chico Landi. He proved capable of competing with drivers of the caliber of González and even Fangio. His last notable appearance in racing was at the 1958 Trofeo Nuvolari Montjuich, where he finished 3rd.
